Brief Introduction of Institute of Optics and Electronics, CAS
Institute of Optics and Electronics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IOE), also named as Chengdu Institute of Optics and Electronics, was founded in 1970. It is the largest institute of Chinese Academy of Sciences in Southwest China. Since the foundation, IOE has made many significant achievements in the fields of adaptive optics, beam control, applied optics and so on, and obtained over 500 scientific research awards including top prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress Award. The institute has 380 claimed patents, 180 authorized patents and more than 3100 published articles. IOE pays special attention to extensive academic exchanges and cooperation at home and abroad, and has hosted of Advanced Optical Manufacturing and Testing Technologies Session (AOMTT) for several times and other international academic exchange activities.
IOE has about 1200 staff, including 2 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 8 state-level experts in the field of opto-electronics, 14 academic and technological research leaders in Sichuan Province, 260 senior S&T personnel. There is one post-doctorial station of Optical Engineering, 3 Doctor Degree Programs in optical engineering, signal & information processing and measurement technology and instrumentation, and 9 Master Degree Programs in optics, optical engineering, machinery manufacturing and automatization, precision instrument and mechanism, measurement technology and instrumentation, physical electronics, signal and information processing, detection technology and automation equipment, computer application technology (covering 8 first level disciplines). Now there are more than 300 postgraduate students studying in the institute.
Aiming at national demands and world technology frontiers in the field of opto-electronics, IOE is focusing on the basic & application hi-tech research and system integration innovative research of optical engineering. There are 3 state key laboratories in the institute: the State Key Laboratory of Beam Control for 863 Program, the State Key Laboratory of Adaptive Optics for 863 Program and the State Key Laboratory of Optical Technologies for Microfabrication. Its major research fields include beam control, adaptive optics, EO observation and recognition of astronomical targets, EO precision tracking and measuring, micro-optics and micro-electronic optics, advanced optical fabrication, biomedical optics and so on. The institute has being undertaken many key projects for National 863 Program, National 973 Program, National Natural Science Foundation of China and programs of national ministries and commissions of China, and many development projects submitted by enterprises. Some researches are leading in China and some advanced in the world.
